The purpose of the M?t?toa Sport Scholarship is to foster excellence in sport and academic performance. This scholarship supports the student athlete to retain a healthy balance of focus and commitment toward their programme of study, sporting commitments, and their own wellbeing, resulting in a rewarding and successful university experience.
The scholarship is open to any athlete from all disciplines who are intending to enrol or are currently enrolled at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington.

Matato Sport Scholarships Value is $7,000 for Returning students; First year students; School leaver
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents of at least two years' standing at the time of enrolment, and be intending to enrol full time in an undergraduate degree in the year following application at Victoria University of Wellington.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, sporting achievement, equity and commitment to attaining a tertiary qualification.
All applications will be considered by a decision-making panel comprising of academic and professional staff at the University chaired by the Associate Director, Sport and Recreation. To assist with awarding, the panel may decide to consider academic performance in additional to being mindful towards the University's strategic focus on M?ori and Pasifika students.

Award recipients are expected to be:
* Where it is more appropriate for the recipient to be playing for a non-university club, or be excused from UTSNZ selection, the recipient may apply for exemption (decision to be made by the Sports Manager).
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
