Victoria University of Wellington Matato Sport Scholarships for Undergraduate Students 2024

The purpose of the M?t?toa Sport Scholarship is to foster excellence in sport and academic performance. This scholarship supports the student athlete to retain a healthy balance of focus and commitment toward their programme of study, sporting commitments, and their own wellbeing, resulting in a rewarding and successful university experience.

The scholarship is open to any athlete from all disciplines who are intending to enrol or are currently enrolled at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington.

Requirements for Victoria University of Wellington Matato Sport Scholarships Qualification

• Applicants should be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents of at least two years' standing at the time of their enrolment.
• Academic - applications must have at least a Merit endorsement in NCEA Level 2 (or equivalent in another qualification) or a B+ GPA (6) if the applicant is already a student at Victoria University of Wellington.
• Sporting - applicants must be age-group regional and/or national representatives in their chosen sport.
• Applicants must already be enroled or intending to enrol full time in an undergraduate degree in the year following application at Victoria University of Wellington.

 

Interview date, Process and Venue for Victoria University of Wellington Matato Sport Scholarships

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents of at least two years' standing at the time of enrolment, and be intending to enrol full time in an undergraduate degree in the year following application at Victoria University of Wellington.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, sporting achievement, equity and commitment to attaining a tertiary qualification.

All applications will be considered by a decision-making panel comprising of academic and professional staff at the University chaired by the Associate Director, Sport and Recreation. To assist with awarding, the panel may decide to consider academic performance in additional to being mindful towards the University's strategic focus on M?ori and Pasifika students.

Additional information

Award recipients are expected to be:

• An active member of the Student Athlete Network
• Member of a Victoria University of Wellington registered sport club*
• Be available to represent Victoria University of Wellington at University and Tertiary Sport New Zealand events*

* Where it is more appropriate for the recipient to be playing for a non-university club, or be excused from UTSNZ selection, the recipient may apply for exemption (decision to be made by the Sports Manager).

Documents Required for Application

• Secondary school academic record, to be uploaded in online application.
• A letter of support from your sporting coach - to be requested via the online application.
• A one-page sporting CV summarising your most recent sporting achievements and an outline of your sporting goals and performance plans.
