Founded by Jane Ferguson who in the year 1941 bequeathed a portion of her residuary estate to Victoria University of Wellington to be held in trust for the purpose of providing out of the income a scholarship on certain terms and conditions stated in her Will. This scholarship is to assist female orphans of academic merit to continue their studies when their financial or other circumstances would prevent them from doing so.

Recipients must write a letter of thanks to the donor of this scholarship.
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
