Victoria University of Wellington 2024 Law School Leaver Scholarships, New Zealand

Victoria University of Wellington Law School Leaver Scholarships are open to students intending to enrol in a Bachelor of Law at the Law School. The scholarship is a contribution to accommodation costs at a Victoria University of Wellington Hall of Residence or paid as a stipend in two instalments. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating financial hardship.

History

Victoria University of Wellington Law School Leaver Scholarships provide financial support to New Zealand's brightest young students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend university. This scholarship programme has been established to ensure the University's Faculty of Law continues to attract the very best students who represent the diversity of New Zealand society.

Aim and Benefits of Victoria University of Wellington Law School Leaver Scholarships

The scholarship value is $5,000 paid over two years ($2,500 per annum). This will be paid directly towards accommodation costs at a Victoria University of Wellington Hall of Residence or as a stipend paid in two instalments. The second $2,500 is awarded upon acceptance and enrolment in second year Law (a minimum enrolment of 2 x 200 level LAW courses).

Requirements for Victoria University of Wellington Law School Leaver Scholarships Qualification

• Applicants are expected to have their NCEA Level 2 Certificate endorsed with Merit, or equivalent in another qualification. The equivalent for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is a score of 170 across no more than four subjects on the UCAS tariff. The equivalent for International Baccalaureate (IB) is a predicted grade of 31 (which will need to be confirmed in January once IB results are available).
• Recipient must gain NCEA Level 3 with at least 25 credits at Merit or Excellence (or equivalent in another qualification).
• Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Victoria University of Wellington Law School Leaver Scholarships

These scholarships are open to students intending to enrol in a Bachelor of Law at the Law School. Applicants are expected to have their NCEA Level 2 Certificate endorsed with Merit (or equivalent in another qualification). Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating financial hardship. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Selection will be made by a panel of appropriate Victoria University of Wellington Faculty of Law staff.

Documents Required for Application

• A copy of your CV
• Applicants must complete the financial section of the online application (if applicable).
• A reference from your School Principal or nominee (to be requested via the online application).
• A one-page personal statement, explaining your reason for wishing to attend Victoria University of Wellington Faculty of Law, the academic goals you hope to achieve and why you believe you merit the scholarship. You should also include any leadership positions and details of your involvement in your school or community. Please provide an outline of your personal circumstances, including details of financial difficulties. More infomation may be requested if necessary.
• A copy of your Year 12 academic results
