For students who are currently enrolled part- or full-time in a masters or doctoral degree in an Earth Sciences subject and have not previously received the Award. Preference will be given to students involved in marine sciences, but applications will be considered for all areas appropriate to the current research activities of the Earth Sciences subject in the School of Science.
The Terry Healy Memorial Award was established in 2011 from donations of family, colleagues, friends and students of Professor Terry Robin Healy (1944-2010) following his untimely death from prostate cancer on 20 July 2010. The fund commemorates the major contributions Professor Healy made to the (then) Department of Earth (and Ocean) Sciences during his 38-year career at the University of Waikato between 1973 and 2010. Widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent coastal marine scientists, his work was acknowledged in 2010 with a Queen’s Birthday honour as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, a University of Waikato Medal, and a life membership of the New Zealand Coastal Society.
Professor Healy was a prominent member of the international coastal research community, and advanced strong collaborative links between colleagues and postgraduate students at the University of Bremen in Germany. One scholarship is offered annually
This University is committed to delivering a world-class education and research portfolio, providing a full and dynamic university experience, distinctive in character, and pursuing strong international links to advance knowledge.
