University of Waikato Brian Perry Charitable Trust Undergraduate Scholarships is for second-year undergraduate students studying a degree in the School of Science, School of Engineering or the Waikato Management School.

The Brian Perry Charitable Trust Undergraduate Scholarships were established in 2007 to assist second year students studying towards an undergraduate degree in the School of Science, School of Engineering or the Waikato Management School at the University of Waikato. The Brian Perry Charitable Trust was established in 1976 with a personal donation of $100,000 from Hamilton businessman Brian Perry and his wife Peggy. It aims to provide support to the community that kindly assisted them with their business growth. The Trust continues to develop strong partnerships with like-minded organisations to deliver on its purpose of ‘Making a meaningful difference towards a vibrant Waikato Region’. Up to two scholarships will be awarded each year.

Aim and Benefits of University of Waikato Brian Perry Charitable Trust Undergraduate Scholarships

The Scholarship will have a value of $5,000 and will be paid directly into the recipient’s bank account in one lump sum as soon as practicable after acceptance of the Scholarship.

Requirements for University of Waikato Brian Perry Charitable Trust Undergraduate Scholarships Qualification

Funded by the Brian Perry Charitable Trust, the scholarship supports well-rounded second-year domestic students studying full-time towards an undergraduate degree in either the School of Science, School of Engineering or the Waikato Management School at the University of Waikato. Up to two scholarships will be awarded each year.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• In the year of application be enrolled full-time (a full-time academic year comprises 120-points) in the second year of study towards an undergraduate degree, in one of the following Schools:
  • a) School of Science
  • b) School of Engineering; or
  • c) Waikato Management School.
• Have been enrolled full-time (120-points) for at least one year at the University of Waikato in the year preceding their application; and
• Be eligible for domestic fees status (i.e., be a New Zealand Citizen, New Zealand Permanent Resident, New Zealand Resident Class Visa holder, or Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident domiciled in New Zealand)

 

Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Waikato Brian Perry Charitable Trust Undergraduate Scholarships

Selection will be based on:

• Academic merit – a minimum grade-point-average (GPA) of B in previous 120-points of study;
• Leadership potential / involvement in team situations;
• Sporting interests & community involvement;
• Financial hardship may also be taken into consideration.

Selection Panel

• The Selection Panel will comprise of the Chair of the Scholarships Committee (or nominee), a representative from the Brian Perry Charitable Trust; an academic from the School of Science or School of Engineering (nominated by the Business Manager of the Development Office) and an academic from the Waikato Management School (nominated by the Business Manager of the Development Office).
• The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no applicant of sufficient merit.
• The Selection Panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into following the selection meeting.
