The Narrm Scholarship is offered to both domestic students who are enrolling an undergraduate degree and are experiencing disadvantaged circumstances, and Indigenous students who are enrolling in an undergraduate degree.
Disadvantaged circumstances include living in a low socio-economic area , receiving Commonwealth income support, having a disability or medical condition, or experiencing personal difficulties.
The name 'Narrm' is the Woi-wurrung word for the Melbourne region meaning ‘place’, and reflects the University's commitment to creating a community where students can feel safe and find a sense of belonging, connect with their peers, and participate fully in university life.

Narrm Scholarship
Aim and Benefits of Narrm Scholarship
This scholarship provides the following benefits:
- A living allowance of $6500 per year for four years paid in half-yearly instalments of $3250 in April and September
- A one-off relocation allowance of $3000 paid shortly after enrolling in their course for students from regional or remote areas of Australia
- An accommodation allowance of up to $20,000 per year for four years paid directly to the accommodation provider for students from regional and remote areas of Australia who are living at approved University Student Accommodation.
Requirements for Narrm Scholarship Qualification
To be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a holder of an Australian permanent visa
- Have completed Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
- Not have completed subjects undertaken as part of a tertiary course (excludes extension program subjects)
- Have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree via VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) Category 1 Personal Information and Location and other categories (if applicable) for commencement in the year following completion of Year 12 or International Baccalaureate
- Meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in your VTAC application
or
- Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted as such by the community in which you live or have lived
- Have applied for a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree via VTAC or VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS)
- Meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in their VTAC application.

Selection criteria
From 2025, this scholarship is offered to:
- All students who are living in low socio-economic areas
- All students who or whose parents or guardians are in receipt of income and asset tested Commonwealth income support
- All Indigenous students
A limited number of scholarships is offered to other students ranked highest based on their overall level of disadvantage based on the information provided in their VTAC SEAS application.
