One International PhD scholarship in the School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) for innovative research projects across the subject area.
We particularly encourage creative PhD proposals working within and between the School’s centres of research excellence to advance knowledge in theory and practice of the politics of global challenges.

POLIS is at the forefront of interdisciplinary investigation of the politics of global challenges: the way in which the human species understands and responds to the processes and consequences of rapid global transformations. Our research activity, which addresses this core problematic on levels ranging from the personal to the planetary, is driven by six interconnected research centres including: the Centre for Democratic Engagement; the Centre for Global Development; the European Centre for the Responsibility to Protect; the Centre for Global Security Challenges; the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics; and the Centre for Contemporary Political Theory. We are offering one full-time PhD scholarship for one International candidate covering a maintenance grant at the standard UKRI rate and International tuition fees for three years, subject to satisfactory progress each year.
Applicants to research degree programmes should have at least a first class or an upper second class British Bachelors Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline. They should also have (or expect to hold) a Masters degree with a Merit or Distinction grade. Applicants who are uncertain about the requirements for a particular research degree are advised to contact the School or Graduate School prior to making an application.
English language requirements
The minimum English language entry requirement for research postgraduate research study is an IELTS of 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each component (reading, writing, listening and speaking) or equivalent. The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid.
