The Care Leaver Bursary are offered as part of our commitment to accessibility and widening participation for higher education. This bursary provides £1,500 per year to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who are joining the university directly from local authority care.

University of Greenwich Care Leaver Bursary
Aim and Benefits of University of Greenwich Care Leaver Bursary
The Care Leaver Bursary worth £1,500 per year for up to three or four years (depending on the length of your course). It is paid in cash and does not need to be repaid.
You get a further £200 in the final year to support the costs of attending graduation.
Requirements for University of Greenwich Care Leaver Bursary Qualification
You will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Care Leaver Bursary:
- You are a UK student (home tuition fee assessed) aged 25 or under.
- You have been in the care of the local authority for at least 52 consecutive weeks immediately prior to the start of your University of Greenwich course.
- You are a full-time or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught student at any of our three campuses or Partner Colleges, where your tuition fees are paid directly to the University of Greenwich.
- You qualify for the maximum level of means-tested government maintenance, special support grants, or government Master’s loan.

- Your full name
- Your Student Banner ID number
- Your Student Support Notification letter from Student Finance England
- A signed letter on local authority headed paper from your leaving care team which confirms your previous care arrangements.
Conditions
- Eligible part-time students will receive this on a pro-rata basis subject to the number of credits they are studying.
- Eligible postgraduate taught students must be studying their first post-graduate degree.
- Postgraduate students are eligible from 2024/25.
