Before the University of Bristol, there was University College, Bristol University College, Bristol existed from 1876 to 1909 and was the precursor to the University of Bristol. Its history can be traced back to the efforts of John Percival, headmaster of Clifton College, to press for the establishment of such an institution. In 1872, Percival wrote to the Oxford colleges observing that the provinces lacked a university culture. Up to 20 awards of £3,500 are available in 2024/25.
The payments are £2,000 in the first year and £750 in the second and third years. We also offer up to £1,000 of funding support for employability opportunities, such as internships, placements or summer research programmes.

Successful applicants will be enrolled on the Futures Scholarship programme. You will be supported by the Futures Scholarships Co-ordinator to access career guidance and advice on University opportunities for personal and professional development. Recipients are expected to come to periodic meetings with relevant University team members.
These awards are funded by donations from University of Bristol alumni and friends.
