Society for Underwater Technology Scholarships for Exceptional Students 2024-2025 (Up to $5000)

The Society for Underwater Technology awards a selection of scholarships every year, to recognise exceptional students and provide targeted financial support to see them complete their studies and start their career in the industry.

Applicants are welcome from all manner of backgrounds that have a connection with offshore (or ocean) technology, ranging from underwater technology, marine and ocean science, underwater robotics, renewable energy, offshore and subsea infrastructure, metocean and many more.

The primary measure for awarding these scholarships is how well applicants demonstrate their passion to pursue a career in the industry through their work to date and aspirations for the future.

We are offering up to four scholarships for 2024 as outlined below.  In addition to the scholarships, the winners will receive networking opportunities and attendance at a SUT short course.

Aim and Benefits of SUT Scholarships

UP TO FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE:

  1. SUT Excellence Scholarship of $5000 (includes one free attendance at a SUT short course. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding candidate in the field of Subsea Engineering, Marine Science, and Underwater Technology.  This scholarship is funded by SUT Perth Branch.

  2. Marine Renewable Energy Scholarship of $5000 (includes one free attendance at a SUT short course): This scholarship will be awarded to the applicant with the most potential to make a significant contribution to the development of marine renewable energy through their studies, research or career ambitions. This scholarship is kindly sponsored by:

  3. Digital Automation in Engineering Scholarship of $5000 (includes one free attendance at a SUT short course): This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who has shown initiative during their studies, by applying programming skills to complement, automate and improve their subsea analysis and design work, and aspires to work in the subsea industry. This scholarship is kindly sponsored by:

  4. Chris Lawlor Scholarship of $2500: This scholarship will be awarded to the most outstanding winner among all three scholarships.


SUT Scholarships Courses


Requirements for SUT Scholarships Qualification

  • To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be studying full time and either in the final two years of undergraduate studies or engaged in post-graduate study in Semester 1 of the following year at an Australian tertiary institution.
  • You must not be working full time in the first half of the following year to qualify.
  • Postgraduate candidates should have a first degree in a relevant engineering or science subject, and have enrolled in a postgraduate course of study related to offshore engineering, marine science or underwater technology.
  • Undergraduate candidates should have permission to proceed to their last or second last year of their degree course in 2025.
  • Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in full time education.
  • Applicants who are employed full time are not eligible for the scholarship, however, part-time employment is acceptable.
  • Applicants are required to be enrolled at university full-time for at least the first semester of 2025.

 

Interview date, Process and Venue for SUT Scholarships

Selection will be on the basis of the information provided in the application form, the academic transcripts and an interview of the short-listed candidates. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the assessment before the end of October 2024.

Dates:

  • 25th June 2024: SUT Scholarship Applications open
  • 13th August 2024: SUT Scholarship Applications close – all supporting documentation including your latest Academic Results MUST be supplied by this date (via email to [email protected]) to be considered as a candidate
  • September 2024: Assessment of candidates by the SUT Scholarship Sub- committee
  • October 2024: Interviews held with short listed candidates & members of the SUT Scholarship Sub-committee
  • Friday, 29th November 2024: SUT Annual Dinner – Scholarship Winners publicly announced
