Shanghai Government Scholarship Program for International Students 2025

For the purpose of constructing the science and technology innovation center with global influence, promoting international cooperation and communication, and attracting more outstanding prospective international students to study in Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal People's Government has set up “Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students” (hereinafter referred to SGS) since 2006. It is established to fund distinctive prospective international students to pursue a degree at Donghua University. 

Applicable Programs:

  • Chinese-taught Bachelor’s Programs (except B.A. in Chinese Language)
  • Master’s degree programs
  • Doctoral degree programs

Aim and Benefits of Shanghai Government Scholarship Program

Scholarship Coverage:

Full Scholarship (Type A):

  • A waiver of tuition fee
  • A waiver of medical insurance fee
  • A waiver of on-campus dorm fee
  • Monthly stipend (bachelor's students: 2500; master's students: CNY 3000; doctoral students: CNY3500)

Partial Scholarship (Type B):

  • A waiver of tuition fee
  • A waiver of medical insurance fee

Schooling & Duration:

  • Bachelor's degree programs: 4 years
  • Master’s degree programs: 2-3 years  
  • Doctoral degree programs: 4 years

The actual scholarship duration is subject to the information on Admission Notice, which cannot be extended in general.


Requirements for Shanghai Government Scholarship Program Qualification

  • Be a non-Chinese citizen in good health.
  • Be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs.
  • Be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs.
  • Be a high school graduate at least 16 years old and under the age of 25 when apply for bachelor's programs
  • Be excellent in academic and extra-curricular performance and yet not be rewarded any other scholarships offered by government, institutes or organizations in China.

April 15, 2025

How to Apply

  • Check first if DHU offers the academic program you plan to learn as well as whether it is covered by SGS scholarships.
  • Complete your online application to DHU at https://admissions.dhu.edu.cn/ and pay the application fee.

Application Period: beginning of December to the next April 15 (fall intake only)
