2024 is a unique year for democracy as billions go to the polls in at least 60 countries. That’s almost 50% of the world’s population taking part in elections. This is the first year in history that so many will be casting their votes for the futures they want, and we won’t see another like it until 2048.
Meanwhile, the world finds itself at a crossroads on the route to net zero. To secure a sustainable future, the world needs to undergo a rapid and deep decarbonisation of all sectors of the economy. While many countries have strengthened their climate policies, the rise of a ‘green backlash’ may slow the rate of progress. If the world is to make the necessary steps towards a green and just transition, much will depend on how people vote in this unprecedent election year.

The Engage Billions Scholarship will support young policy leaders from around the world to join the One Young World Summit 2024 in Montréal as part of BMW Group’s global delegation.In addition, scholars will have access to a unique “Welcome!
