The Women Leadership Accelerator is an intensive programme that supercharges the leadership and management skills of women who are pushing digital innovation.
The accelerator includes tailored, immersive programming, support and coaching to participants throughout the year. In addition to learning leadership skills and tools for navigating change, participants will focus on a challenge specific to their careers, whether an obstacle to overcome or an aspirational goal to achieve, either within their organizations or as an independent project.

Aim and Benefits of Women Leadership Accelerator
The 2023 accelerator provides:
- A virtual welcome gathering in March, one-on-one virtual welcome coaching from March through April, and a cohort workshop in person in April or May; concentrated on practical, hands-on labor for both personal and professional purposes; Deep dives on building leadership and management abilities; one-on-one coaching from industry professionals; open debates about leadership, work-life balance, and problem-solving in the newsroom
- A year of updates, targeted, useful advice, and one-on-one coaching on unique difficulties
- Enrollment for the Online News Association Conference in 2023 (#ONA23)
- August will bring the cohort’s last workshop, which will also be ONA23.
- The chance to join a group of peers who can act as a powerful career-long support system
Requirements for Women Leadership Accelerator Qualification
The Accelerator is designed for practitioners working in digital media, including freelancers, entrepreneurs and independent journalists, who are pushing innovation in digital media. This means we’re looking for women who not only have an understanding of the digital journalism landscape but who are helping to advance it in innovative ways.
- Women from a range of disciplines, including startups, digital-only, legacy media and blended newsrooms, broadcast and technology companies.
- Applicants should have leadership experience, which can mean managing people or projects, and be committed to further developing their skills.

Timeline:
- Oct. 21, 2022: Applications open
- Nov. 10, 2022: Applications close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (4:59 UTC)
- February/March 2023: Cohort announced
- Week of March 9: Hello Meeting for WLA23 Cohort (1-2 hours, virtual)
- Between March/April: Individual welcome coaching (virtual)
- April/May 2023: In-person workshop in Chicago (exact dates to be confirmed)
- August 22, 2023: Closing workshop during ONA23 in Philadelphia
