The Nieman Visiting Fellowships at Harvard offer short-term research opportunities to individuals interested in working on special projects designed to advance journalism in some new way. Nieman Visiting Journalism Fellowships

Aim and Benefits of Nieman Visiting Journalism Fellowships

• Recipients of short-term Nieman Visiting Fellowships receive a stipend for the length of their fellowships and free housing for their stay at Harvard.
• In addition to a monthly stipend, fellows receive modest housing, childcare and health insurance allowances, depending on the size of their families.

Requirements for Nieman Visiting Journalism Fellowships Qualification

• The proposed project must have the potential to advance journalism. This may be related to research, programming, design, financial strategies or another topic.
• Those who should consider applying include journalists, publishers, technologists, entrepreneurs, programmers, designers, media analysts, academics and others who want to make an impact. There is no age limit or academic prerequisites, and a college degree is not required. Both U.S. and international applicants are invited to apply.
• Candidates must be available to reside in Cambridge, Mass., for the duration of the fellowship.
• Prospective fellows must speak and read English fluently and have a command of written English.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Nieman Visiting Journalism Fellowships

Successful applicants are invited to the Nieman Foundation for a period ranging from a few weeks to three months, depending on the scope of the project. Knight Visiting Nieman Fellows have access to the extensive resources at Harvard and throughout Cambridge, including local scholars, research centers and libraries. Successful applicants also have the opportunity to work with Nieman Fellows and the various projects housed at the Nieman Foundation, including Nieman Reports, Nieman Journalism Lab, and Nieman Storyboard.
