About McGraw Center for Business Journalism

Our mission at the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism is to enhance the quality and depth of business and economic news coverage. Financed by a $3 million grant from the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Family Foundation, the Center was established at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York in January 2014 to support veteran business journalists and train young reporters entering the field. Aim and Benefits of McGraw Fellowship

The Fellowship provides grants up to $15,000 and editorial support to experienced journalists that enables them to do the deep reporting necessary to produce high-impact investigative and enterprise stories that tackle critical issues related to economy, finance and business.

Requirements for McGraw Fellowship Qualification

To be eligible for the McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Fellowship stories must have an economic or financial angle, but you don’t need to be a business reporter to apply.
• Open to anyone with at least five years professional experience in journalism.
• Applicants may be freelance journalists, reporters or editors currently working at a news organization or a journalism non-profit.

Applicants should enclose three journalism samples. The samples should be professionally published work that showcases your ability to tackle an in-depth story in the proposed medium.
