Institute for African Women in Law 2022 Fellowships

The Institute for African Women in Law (IAWL) has three open positions for remote, unpaid fellowships with a one-year non-renewable commitment. All applicants must submit a maximum four-page double-spaced (1000 words) proposal for the work they intend to carry out during the fellowship and a resume highlighting relevant experience. In addition to the requirements identified by the specific fellowship, the proposal should include a discussion of why the applicant is applying for the fellowship, relevant skills, and the ways they will contribute to the vision of the Institute.

Aim and Benefits of Institute for African Women in Law Fellowships

The position is unpaid and remote, but upon successful completion of the one-year fellowship period, fellows will receive a modest stipend and certificate of completion.


Requirements for Institute for African Women in Law Fellowships Qualification

Intended applicants must possess an LLM, SJD, or Ph.D., or be an early-career professional (junior faculty or researcher at an accredited university), applicants outside this pool may be considered under certain circumstances. All fellow positions may include supervisory responsibilities depending on the interns working and any ongoing project requirements

General Evaluation:
All fellows will be evaluated periodically during the one-year fellowship period. Evaluations will be based on whether the fellow meets their quarterly goals and the quality of those outcomes. The first three months are probationary. A fellow who fails to meet specific fellowship goals or whose work is not satisfactory may be removed after six months

The fellowship period will start on June 1, 2022. All applications must be received by April 30, 2022 by filling out the Fellowship Application Form. The application will require the contact information for two professional references. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by mid-May for an interview.
