The Jenga Haki Lab is a HiiL ideation programme that brings people with different skill sets and interests together and provides them with a specific environment and timeframe to quickly build a solution to a specific problem. Jenga Haki Labs aims to primarily build a prototype of a solution and form a team of co-founders, while strengthening the justice community and building a justice innovation pipeline. The programme also provides an opportunity for participants to learn something new and make headway on problems they are interested in.

Did you know that crime is the most common justice problem in Kenya, with over one million Kenyans experiencing a crime problem annually, yet up to 44% of Kenyans say that they were not able to resolve the crime problem they encountered? Did you also know that in Uganda, according to the HiiL Deep Dive Into Crime in Uganda Report 2020, one in three Ugandans experiences crime-related justice problems. Only a small portion of crimes are reported to the police or a court of law. Eventually unreported crimes can even lead to mob justice Most commonly, people experience petty crime such as theft. While severe crime such as violence is not as common, it has a critical impact on people’s wellbeing.
