A generous donation to commemorate the late Ember Venning, a South Australian teacher of elocution, has enabled the establishment of the Ember Venning Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage postgraduate research in Speech Pathology or Audiology, especially in relation to the Indigenous community and provide financial assistance to Masters by research and Doctorate by research students in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it was named in honour of navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century. One scholarship valued at $4,000 awarded annually.
Applicants for the scholarship must:
a) Be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; and
b) Have applied for admission to or be enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research to undertake or be undertaking research in the area of Speech Pathology or Audiology, preferably in relation to the Indigenous community.
Selection Criteria
Selection will be made by a committee, the University’s Scholarships Committee.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the extent to which an applicant's research project is relevant to speech and/ or hearing amongst the Indigenous community.
In the event that no applicant’s research project relates specifically to the Indigenous community the scholarship will be awarded to the highest ranked applicant.
Applications must be made on the prescribed form, which can be downloaded from the University website and lodged by the specified closing date.
