They are seeking an outstanding candidate for a full-time Indigenous PhD scholarship as part of a national project associated with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning arm of Movember’s newly established Indigenous Social and Emotional Wellbeing portfolio. This exciting project is a partnership between Flinders Health & Medical Research Institute (https://www.flinders.edu.au/fhmri) and the Movember Institute of Men’s Health (https://ex.movember.com/movember-institute).
This PhD scholarship offers a unique opportunity for a high achieving graduate from a public health, psychology, allied health, gender studies, community development, anthropology or sociology background to undertake an evaluative research project relating to Indigenous men’s social and emotional wellbeing. This will be an applied, pragmatic, interdisciplinary research opportunity to undertake either a qualitative or mixed-methods study. It will require an ability to work in a culturally sensitive way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and organisations; and a willingness to work with key local, national and international industry partners, such as Movember. The candidate will join a team of Australia’s leading researchers in Indigenous men’s health, health promotion, and social and emotional wellbeing.

Prior to submitting an application for the scholarship, prospective applicants are advised to contact the Project Co-lead, Professor James Smith via email [email protected] to discuss your interest and eligibility for the opportunity. The Project lead may invite you to apply and request examples of previous academic work (e.g. publications), and a copy of your CV together with a covering letter outlining your relevant qualifications, experience, research experience and reasons for applying for the scholarship. We also encourage students nearing the completion of honours or who may wish to study part-time to make contact if they are interested in pursuing a PhD in this area.
Applicants will be short-listed and interviews will be held in early April 2025. Outcomes will be released by late April 2025.
The successful candidate will ideally begin by 1 July 2025, subject to negotiation.
