The Crawford Fund is offering travel awards designed specifically for undergraduate students, thanks to support from Ted and Frances Henzell and their family. The Henzells and the Crawford Fund hope by experiencing work on the ground in a partner country, you may be encouraged to consider further related study and develop a career to join the many others active with Australian and international institutions having an impact on food and nutrition security.

About Flinders University

Aim and Benefits of Crawford Fund Henzell Awards

The Crawford Fund Henzell Awards:

• Encourage those studying in any area broadly related to food and nutrition security to progress with their studies and eventual careers in international agricultural research in developing tropical countries in the Asia Pacific Region, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, or Madagascar.
• Raise awareness in undergraduate students of the impact they can have on food and nutrition security in the tropics, with a mutual benefit to Australia, through careers in agriculture for development.
• Enable undergraduate Australian students to experience agricultural projects in a tropical country involving Australian researchers and/or receiving Australian support.
• Seek to grow the number of Australians involved in international agricultural research.

Requirements for Crawford Fund Henzell Awards Qualification

These awards are available to Australian citizens or permanent residents who are at least in their second year studying at the undergraduate level at an Australian university. Reflecting the need for multi-disciplinary teams to take on the task of improving food and nutrition security, students can be studying in any degree of relevance to food production and food and nutrition security of benefit to tropical countries.

The purpose of the awards is to encourage undergraduate students to consider further study and careers related to food security. Therefore, applications should be for travel that can be carried out before final exams.

Selection Criteria

The decisions by the Henzell Awards Advisory Panel on the final group of successful applicants are final and no further avenues for appeal, further information or consideration are available.

All applicants will be asked to explain their interest and/or motivation in receiving a Henzell Award, and will be required to attach a brief CV (no longer than four pages), a supporting note from a related university staff member supporting your application to travel, and there is the option to provide additional personal or academic referees. You may like to ensure you have all those before commencing the online application.
