The Playford Trust, in partnership with the South Australian Division of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA), offers a $5000 scholarship annually to an outstanding student entering a full-time Honours year in earth sciences at a South Australian public university.
GSA was established as a non-profit learned organisation in 1952 to promote, advance and support Earth Sciences in Australia. Members come from minerals and petroleum industries, government departments, research and education institutions and consultancy groups.
Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it was named in honour of navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century. The Playford Trust will consider nominations from students studying at one of the three South Australian public universities, and reserves the right to accept or reject any or all of the nominations.
The GSA-SA Division and the Playford Trust will jointly make the final selection.
It is essential that the applicant’s supervisor or an academic referee (e.g. dean of school/faculty, or lecturer) provides a supporting comment about the student’s achievements, character and leadership potential.
