Flinders University 2023 College of Science and Engineering Summer Research Award

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Flinders University will be offering Summer Research Awards to undergraduate students over the summer vacation period of 2023-2024.

These awards will provide students with an opportunity to gain an insight into research by participating in a research project under the supervision of a member of staff. As a part of the award, the student will gain valuable hands-on experience in the planning, conduct and analysis of research in their chosen field.

College of Science and Engineering Summer Research Award

Aim and Benefits of College of Science and Engineering Summer Research Award

The Awards will be of up to $1,500 for an approximately 4 – 6 week research project held between December 2023 and February 2024. The award payment will be paid in a single lump sum payment in January 2024.

Requirements for College of Science and Engineering Summer Research Award Qualification

Applicants must fulfil all the eligibility criteria listed in the University-wide Summer Research Awards.  The following restrictions apply specifically to the CSE Summer Research Awards:

• Generally, the applicant must be a current student at an Australian University and in the 2nd or 3rd year of their undergraduate degree, or equivalent.
• Intend to enroll in 2024 at an Australian university.
• Have, by December 2023, completed between 54 - 90 units of a relevant undergraduate degree, or the equivalent.
• Be available for a placement of a minimum of 4 - 6 weeks between December 2023 and February 2024.
• Not previously been awarded a CSE Summer Research Award or Scholarship.

Selection Criteria

 Awards will be awarded based on:

• Progress in relevant degree (Flinders equivalent units) by December 2023
  • Rank 1 - 54 – 72 units
  • Rank 2 - 73 – 90 units
• GPA of relevant topics completed towards undergraduate study, not including current semester 2 results.
• A personal statement of no more than 300 words detailing the applicant's suitability for the award.

How to Apply

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact a prospective supervisor, either by email or in person, prior to applying to confirm their availability and willingness to host the student. Students may only submit one application.  Up to three projects may be nominated in order of preference on the application.
