The Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP), led by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and the Stanley Center for Peace and Security, is pleased to announce the CCMP COP29 Reporting Fellowship Program for journalists interested in covering the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29). Hosted this year by Azerbaijan, the conference is scheduled to take place in the city of Baku from November 11-22, 2024.
Now in its 17th iteration since its launch in 2007, the CCMP has brought more than 500 journalists from low- and middle-income countries to attend and report on the annual UN climate talks. This has enabled journalists from around the world to cover the climate negotiations for their home audiences, while benefiting from working alongside knowledgeable media trainers and gaining a multifaceted understanding of the actions countries are taking — or not taking — to address climate change's global impact.
This year, the CCMP Reporting Fellowship aims to bring up to 20 journalists from low- and middle income countries* to report in-person at COP29. In light of the climate summit being hosted by Azerbaijan this year, we also encourage journalists from countries of varying incomes in neighboring regions (the Balkans, the Baltics, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia)* to apply.
Internews initially developed the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) in 2004 to enable journalists from developing countries to cover the environment more effectively. We are now a truly global network working with reporters and media outlets in virtually every region of the world. *See the full list of eligible countries. These countries were chosen because they are low- and middle-income countries as defined by the World Bank, because they are in a region neighboring the COP host country, and/or because there is a demonstrated need for increased reporting on climate change. Some countries were excluded due to security concerns.
