Charles Darwin University Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship 2025

The Australian Government supports international students with full funding via the Charles Darwin University RTP Scholarship to study in Australia.

The Charles Darwin University RTP Scholarship offers prospective Master’s and PhD students the opportunity to take their research potentials to the next level in a top Australian university.

All Scholarships are considered and awarded through a competitive process. Interested applicants should read this post in full for a breakdown of the application procedure.

About Charles Darwin University

Charles Darwin University (CDU) is an Australian public university with about 22,083 students as of 2011. It was established in 2003 after the merger of Northern Territory University (NTU) of Darwin, the Menzies School of Health Research and Centralian College of Alice Springs and it was named after Charles Darwin, the celebrated English naturalist.

Aim and Benefits of Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship

Australian Government RTP Stipend Scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential to undertake an HDR at an Australian university and are not automatically granted to all students. The scholarships are provided to assist with general living costs.

• AU$32,192 (2024 rate) per annum tax-free for full-time students, paid in fortnightly instalments.
• AU$16,096 (2024 rate) per annum, taxable, for part-time students, paid in fortnightly instalments.

Three years full-time for a doctoral degree and two years for a research Master's degree. 

You must be enrolled in an accredited HDR course of study at an Australian Higher Education Provider (HEP) and demonstrate exceptional research potential to undertake an HDR.

You must not receive income from another source to support your general living costs while enrolled in a course of study if that income is greater than 75% of the RTP stipend rate.

Please note: income unrelated to your course of study or income received for your course of study but not for the purpose of supporting general living costs is not considered.

Additional benefits include:

• Paid sick leave
• Maternity leave
• Relocation allowance. The relocation allowance for RTP stipend recipients is up to $2,000 for domestic students and $2,500 for international students. Conditions apply.

Requirements for Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship Qualification

• Must be enrolled in an accredited HDR course of study at an Australian Higher Education Provider (HEP)
• Demonstrate exceptional research potential to undertake an HDR.
• Must not receive income from another source to support your general living costs while enrolled in a course of study if that income is greater than 75% of the RTP stipend rate.

• Domestic Closing date -31 October 2024 
• Domestic Application Outcomes - Mid- December
•  International Closing date - 30 September 2024
• International Application Outcomes - Mid- November
