The British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA) invites graduate students, early career researchers and practitioners to submit their paper abstracts for the 2023 Graduate Conference. We welcome papers addressing any topic on ethnicity and national identity in Africa. Papers related to BIEA thematic areas and topics in ‘minority’, ‘marginalised’, and ‘Indigenous’ categories of group identification are especially encouraged.
Below are BIEA Thematic Areas:
The British Institute in Eastern Africa has been active since 1960 and has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The Institute exists to promote research in all the disciplines in the humanities and social sciences within the wider region of eastern Africa. It has a strong tradition of research in anthropology, archaeology, history and linguistics, and recent projects have embraced political, environmental and development studies, geography, public health, and art and performance. Submit your title and abstracts (150-200 words), and a short bio of not more than 100 words (indicating your affiliation, area of research interest, contact details), in PDF format addressing the above theme/sub-themes to [email protected] on or before 14th July 2023.
Email subject must read: BIEA 2023 Graduate Conference.
Successful applicants will be informed by 31st July 2023. Full Paper submission deadline 20th October 2023.
