WISER is pleased to announce a new, long-term research project into African Trust Infrastructures. With generous support from Standard Bank we will be hosting a new doctoral research programme examining the development of digital population registration systems, and their effects on institutions.
Established by Deborah Posel in September 2001 WISER very quickly established itself as the pre-eminent interdisciplinary research institute in the humanities and social sciences in South Africa, and one of the most influential globally. The institute draws on a history of advanced interdisciplinary research at Wits that dates back to the late 1960s, but over the last decade, in particular, it has pursued five main objectives with distinctive energy and enterprise. Fellows will receive funding for two years on the university's standard post-doctoral package. Additional funding for research expenses and conference travel may be available. Fellows will be required to undertake up to 8 hours work a week for WiSER.
