The GSAHW was inspired by the creative engagements and multicultural collaboration from the Arts in Medicine Projects led Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship program, which has hosted an Arts in Health festival twice every year since 2018. It is a creative health initiative led by an interdisciplinary team of students and professionals from Africa, Asia, the UK, Europe, and America. This program has impacted over 10,000 participants from 43 countries across the globe. This includes patients, community members, and healthcare professionals, among others.
The Global South Arts & Health Week seeks to collaborate with arts and cultural organizations, academic institutions, public and community health establishments, government agencies, diplomatic missions, local and international organizations, the private and public sectors, civic societies, NGOs, cultural producers, festival directors, and a team of interdisciplinary students and professionals.
The Global South Arts and Health Week brings together emerging and leading professionals, institutions, scholars, researchers, curators, academicians, educators, cultural practitioners, diplomats, entrepreneurs, medical doctors, health workers, community leaders, development practitioners, policymakers, scientists, artists, scientists, advocates, activists, administrators, art therapists, musicians, dancers, photographers, and others for strategic partnerships, cultural exchanges, community building, research practice, scientific advancement, and global development in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This event also opens doors of collaboration to emerging and leading professionals from the global north to build bridges for art therapy and arts and health best practices.
Featuring: plenary sessions, research presentations, hackathons, masterclasses, and workshops; film screenings; arts in health residency; community arts and health and art therapy engagement; art exhibitions, performances, poster presentations; knowledge and cultural exchanges; tourism; and round table discussions.
