The Department of Management, Society and Communication (MSC) at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) invites applications for one vacant PhD scholarship within the departments areas of research.
Multi-disciplinary by design, MSC leverages the synergies of its faculty to explore the conditions and practices of responsible management, organisation and governance in a globalising world, sharing a particular concern with culture, communication and context as lenses to understand the interaction and interdependencies of business and society.
MSCs research is organised in three research environments, each with a number of sub-areas of specialization:
The CBS Sustainability Centre (more info: https://www.cbs.dk/en/research/departments-and-centres/department-of-management-society-and-communication/cbs-sustainability)
The Centre of Business and Development Studies (CBDS: more info: https://www.cbs.dk/en/research/departments-and-centres/department-of-management-society-and-communication/centre-business-and-development-studies-cbds)
The Communication, Organisation and Governance (COG) Research Cluster
(more info: https://www.cbs.dk/files/cbs.dk/cluster_0.pdf)
Applicants are required to develop a well-specified research proposal, which should be linked to one or more of these research environments. This may include addressing topic areas like:
The challenges of fostering practices and transformations towards sustainability of organizations, markets, individuals, and society at large
The relations between business, government and civil society in governing sustainable development, particularly in the Global South
The dynamic interplay of communication, organization and governance (especially in the age of digital media), including issues such as diversity, culture, learning, change, and/or (responsible) management and leadership, as these pertain to contemporary organizations
We invite interested candidates from different disciplinary backgrounds in the human and social sciences, such as management and organisation studies, economics, media and communication studies, culture studies, development studies, political science, sociology, anthropology, or geography.
Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programmes. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).
CBS PhD graduates are held in high esteem not only in academia and research institutions but also in government and business where their research qualifications are increasingly demanded. One third of CBS PhD graduates go on to employment outside universities and public research institutions.
